Scott DeMars, a golfer from Old Baldy Golf Course, entered the first-ever Montana State Match Play Championship tournament on Saturday, June 10.
The tournament was played at the Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena, and was hosted by the Montana State Golf Association.
In the qualifying round, DeMars shot a perfect par for the course of 72 strokes. This performance ranked him 11th going into match play.
First up for DeMars was Gabe Witham, a golfer from the Butte Country Club who was seeded 22nd in the tournament. Witham received an early lead over DeMars and held onto it throughout the match, finishing 4 up on hole 15.
Despite not progressing in the tournament, DeMars was on track to improve his course score in the match.
Bill Petrovish also participated from Old Baldy, but withdrew before the seeding round finished.
