Townsend SkillsUSA Attends State

Townsend SkillsUSA Attends State Clint Watson, The Townsend chapter of SkillsUSA participated in the State SkillsUSA competitions on March 29th-31st. We had a smaller group this year than usual, and we hope to get more involved next year. It really is good for the students to enrich their vocational skills by competing in events like cabinetmaking, welding, architectural and technical drafting, etc. Attending these events is also beneficial to the advisors so they can keep up with newer techniques and technologies.
Our Chapter saw Ainsley Diehl and Ryhlee Diehl receive 1st and 2nd place in Cabinetmaking last year. Evan Berg placed 2nd in Welding Sculpture last year, as well. Ainsley Diehl and his father Dallas actually went to Atlanta, GA to allow Ainsley to compete in Cabinetmaking where he finished in the middle of the pack. So this year Ainsley did well again, although he finished 4th at state and received an honorable mention. Kaden Bruins, a sophomore, did pretty well in his combination welding competition as there were 52 welders from around the state signed up. We are encouraging students to compete in Air Cooled Gas Engines, Welding, Welding Sculpture, Wood Sculpture, Carpentry, speaking contests, and CAD drafting contests.
We really appreciate all the support from our community. The Lions have been super supportive, as well as the Bulldog Booster and Rotary Clubs. Bob and Sherri Brastrup, Jim and Darlene Beck, the Rodeo Club, Rocky Mountain Supply, the Cemetary Board, and many other individuals have contributed. With your support, we are able to get our students to competitions and buy tools to help educate our young men and women in the trades. We try to do community service when there is a need so we help with the Football field, Track field, cemetery markers, small engine maintenance, and many other small jobs.
