Recent Campaign Ads Featuring Rural Hospitals
Justin Tiffany
Billings Clinic Broadwater CEO
Recently we learned that a political campaign in Montana has run campaign advertisements across the state stating that rural hospitals throughout the state, including Billings Clinic Broadwater, would be closed. It is important that our community understand that our hospital is not at immediate threat of closure. We are here, we are open, and we remain ready to serve our community.
These ads were not coordinated with nor endorsed by Billings Clinic Broadwater, or any other hospitals named in these ads. We were not involved with the development or placement of these advertisements. The campaign that ran this ad is responsible for the content of its ads. As a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization, we DO NOT take a position on political candidate races. Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.
We recognize that the statements made in these ads are concerning for members of the community. There are currently multiple threats to the financial and operational viability of our state’s rural hospitals. Elected leaders can and will make decisions that affect our ability to continue and improve access to healthcare in all the communities served by facilities across the state. We invite you to learn more about where candidates stand on the healthcare policies that can affect you and your families. Montana’s hospitals, including ours, face many challenges and we urge community members to continue to engage, ask questions and understand the challenges we face.
Our team at Billings Clinic Broadwater remains committed to serving the vital healthcare needs of our community. We thank you for your continued support of our local hospital.
